This book is so special to me and now we’ve won an Earphones for it!?
During the summer 2023, I recorded this at Outpost Studios in San Francisco. I found out a week into moving from NorCal that my performance on THE SPIRIT GLASS by Roshani Chokshi, presented by Rick Riordan (Yes! THE Rick Riordan - OF PERCY JACKSON) had won an earphones award.
Moving back to Southern California was pretty challenging and to know we worked so hard on this title, with all of it’s Filipino mythology, adventures and characters (mainly Saso), I just feel so humbled to have been part of it.
Thank you to everyone involved and thank you AudioFile for the recognition!

Ferdelle

You may already know this about me, but I am a proud Canadian. Born and raised in Toronto. I didn’t move to California until 2016. My experience in music and being in recording studios behind the mic has been a HUGE help to my career as an audiobook narrator.
That being said, I grew up listening to Alanis Morisette, Sara McLachlan, Chantal Kreviazuk which influenced a lot of how I also turned to music as a singer-songwriter while playing the guitar as form of my self-expression. I eventually discovered Tegan & Sara and became a HUUUUuUuuUGE fan at the age of 10 or 11.
It brings me great, speechless joy to have worked on voicing characters such as their best friends Noa and Faiza, and Mom (and Ms. Beatrice and Ms. Nguyen) for their graphic novel ‘Junior High’.
It was an outstanding experience to be in New York City at the Macmillan studios. Truly a dream come true for little Canadian me.
This book is profoundly poignant and wrangles so many important themes that will bring you back to memories and touch your heart.
As a teen, I didn’t know I identified as bisexual. We didn’t have the vocabulary or support in my Catholic school to discover what this meant. Since I wasn’t fawning over Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic, or gushing over which Backstreet Boy I liked the most, I really had zero interest in boys growing up and much rather had been reading books or watching the Simpsons - the word “lesbian” was weaponized against me (kids are mean!). I felt hugely misunderstood and was so excited to have been gifted an acoustic guitar and finally felt like I could turn to something that felt truly me without being questioned or judged.
I am grateful for books like this one because in it’s raw authenticity and bravery, it helps me be courageous in sharing my own story with you.
I hope you enjoy Junior High as deeply as I have being part of it.

Another
Earphones Award Win!? WOW!!
From Audiofile Magazine:
A stellar full cast gives this hard-hitting middle school mystery incisive podcast vibes. New student Anna turns her curiosity about her ostracized eighth-grade classmate into the subject of her podcast application for a summer workshop. Narrator Ferdelle Capistrano as Anna leans into the slick cadence and tone of podcast hosting to differentiate the podcast sections from Anna's personal story. Alexandra Hunter's enigmatic moments as the titular Rachel give a heartbreakingly bitter contrast to the earnestness of Capistrano's Anna. The rest of the cast voice different kids, parents, and the school principal, bringing to life interview transcripts, texts, and emails that reveal schoolyard antics that morph into sexual harassment and a depiction of what happens to girls who don't just laugh along. This is a devastating and timely listen. S.T.C. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award © AudioFile 2023, Portland, Maine [Published: MARCH 2023]

My most recent narration, Briefly, A Delicious Life by Nell Stevens is utterly brilliant. Nell Stevens spans time; She is poetic and cinematic; Poignant and familiar. I narrate as Blanca, a 14 year old disembodied ghost in Mallorca, Spain, as she discovers life again through centuries and finally encounters George Sand and Chopin. Shivers. Listen and enjoy!

I loved narrating ‘A Song Called Home’ and really experiencing the world through Lou’s eyes and heart. Sara Zarr is such an effortless writer. She describes the way it feels to discover your identity and finding your voice all while navigating change with such accuracy. I found many parts of my younger self healed by Lou’s story and I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did reading it when you give it a listen!
